We’re experiencing the dead of mid-winter, and things feel slow and calm. While the new year has passed, nature reminds us that we should be soft with our spirits. This is a time to make our hibernation count, so we can emerge come Spring with a balanced energy!
Capricorn, is a boss sign that works strategically and efficiently. Denoted by the Sea Goat, this slice of the zodiac takes careful steps to scale the mountains it sets ahead of itself. As an Earth sign, Cap season is powerful and successful, but it is also ruled by Saturn, so it may come at a large cost. Saturn is the daddy of the cosmos, and can be kind of a bummer if you’re not on the right path, so make sure you keep your eyes peeled.
Ruling the 10th house, which governs career and reputation, Capricorn season asks how we can make an impact. With their Tarot card being The Devil, however, we are reminded that obsession on the wrong intention can prove to consume us.
As the sign that begins the Winter, Capricorn has a cardinal quality. They usher in a new wave of change, which we will see carried out by Aquarius.
Aquarius (beginning January 20) is a funky, cosmic sign that aims to be different and erect real change. As the sign of humanitarianism and social awareness, Aquarians know just how to use the Capricorn impact for good. Aqua season is different and loud.
Aquarius rules the 11th house, which governs technology and hope for the future. That’s why their tarot card, The Star, makes so much sense! It symbolizes optimism, and even further, the North Star to guide us to our destiny.
Falling in mid-winter, Aquarius has a fixed quality. They keep the momentum of the season and amplify it, sitting with what we’re learning and what we have left to learn.
The Eclipses
On January 10th, we have our first Full Moon of the decade accompanied by a lunar eclipse. This will end eclipse season, but we will feel the shadow of the eclipse energy through the rest of Capricorn season.
Eclipses are known to literally black out what isn’t working in your life. And during task-master Saturn’s ruling season, this can feel almost punitive. When Pluto, the planet of the underworld, is conjunct to this energy (look up Pluto-Saturn conjunction for more info) we can feel like things are being ripped from our hands.
The important thing to note, is that you will always be left with what you are meant to have, and holding on with a vice grip to what no longer serves you will only create wounds in hands that are meant to create. Try to practice surrender at this time.
Endings Usher in Beginnings
Remember that when one door closes, another opens, so even if it feels like the world is ending due to a loss, you’re actually coming up to a new win!
I always think of the Eight of Cups in this scenario. It’s such a bitter sweet sentiment in the tarot deck; to move away from something that you want to be emotionally fulfilling, but truly isn’t. Don’t hold people or situations to unrealistic expectations in your head, and then make yourself suffer when they can’t hold them up.
Instead, focus on yourself and your own realistic abilities, and emotional fulfillment will come in time.
Eos and the Dawn
Eos is the Greek Goddess of the dawn. She ushers in new light over the far east of the ocean to overcome the night. This brings hope, change, inspiration, and rejuvenation to mortals, and is exactly the energy we will be feeling post-eclipse, coming into the season of Aquarius.
Everything in life goes in cycles, from the seasons, to life, to the light of day. There is always darkness before the dawn, as Florence Welch would say! So remember when things feel their most overwhelming, you will always be met with a ray of light when you most need it.
Eos is a great goddess to work with when feeling an overwhelming darkness. Invoking her energy can help to invigorate you, just as she does daily with her light.
Eclipsing Your Fears
By combining Eos’ energy with Capricorn, Aquarius, and the Eclipses, you will be able to banish your fears with ease. Use this ritual to usher in the dawn.
What you’ll need:
- Cleansing tool of choice (bells, smoke, etc.)
- Pen and paper
- Black sharpie
How to perform:
- First, clear the area in which you’re performing your ritual. This will help give you balanced energy in which to work.
- Call in Eos’ energy by (either aloud or in your head) asking for her presence as you perform this ritual.
- Take your pen and paper, and write down everything you wish to release.
- Next, write down your fears surrounding these releases. Maybe you’re afraid to let go of an attachment to a past love for fear of losing their memory? Or maybe you’re afraid of visibility in your business for fear of backlash? Do some real exploring here.
- Finally, take your black sharpie and “eclipse” out these fears. Write a solid black line through them, and chant “I release” as you do so.
- When you are finished, thank Eos for her presence and healing, and make sure to tend to your rest and self care throughout the rest of these chilly months.
