If the sky is a mirror, Full Moons are a culmination point reflecting our layered journey here on earth, illuminating what we’ve been building toward, or what we’ve been actively avoiding. With the Sun in Cancer and Moon in Capricorn, these two sister signs form an opposition in the sky, striking a cord between our conscious will and our emotional needs. The Cancer Sun is nurturing, home-y, tender, and intuitive, granting us emotional wisdom. The Capricorn Moon, anchored in responsibility, discipline, and hard work, offers the practical action to put that wisdom to good use. Feelings turn into a plan. Intuition is put into action.
The sensitive and watery Moon doesn’t love being pulled down to earth in Capricorn. The Moon is in detriment in Capricorn, indicating a challenging (not negative) energy where emotions can feel blocked and hard to navigate. The lessons are tough, but they are necessary.
The Full Moon in Capricorn is always an astrological reality check. Arriving right at the midpoint of the year, we’re forced to look back and acknowledge where we’ve fallen short or where we’ve followed through. Capricorn shines a light on the promises you made to yourself six months ago and holds you accountable. It looks you dead in the eye and asks: “You said you wanted to be in a different place–so what have you actually done to get there?” Are you sacrificing what needs to be sacrificed? What have you been avoiding that’s hard? Are you putting your effort and time in the right place? We can also use this same energy to look on the bright side. Is something paying off? Are you seeing your consistency translate to results? Where has prioritizing comfort and safety kept you from stepping into greater responsibility? Did you make a deal with the universe? Capricorn says, you need to keep your end of the bargain. For some, this Full Moon will be a wake up call. For others, it will be celebratory. Both are a gift.
The Strawberry Moon brings sweetness
While the astrology of this Full Moon may come off as tough, the symbolism behind the Strawberry Moon represents something much sweeter. Around this same Full Moon last year, I had an idea for a Strawberry Moon ritual oil that I brought to life this year. I was inspired by the realization that nature is the original calendar, showing us the passage of time through flowers. I know when my azalea bush blooms that Beltane has arrived, and once my peonies start blooming, I know the Strawberry Moon is near.
I've lived in my house for nearly 15 years now. Over the years, I've turned grass into flower beds, transformed an overgrown raspberry patch into a combined vegetable garden, and done my best to preserve the yard the previous owners poured so much time and care into.
The peony bush was here when I moved in. Someone else's labor of love passed down for another to enjoy, year after year. Every June, I watch that bush on the southeast side of my house stretch its tightly wound buds toward the Sun, waiting patiently for the inevitable burst of fragrant blooms. Like all perennials, those peonies return every year. Like strawberries, their bloom time is short and fleeting, yet the longevity of the bush itself offers a beautiful bounty every June. By the time those blossoms open, my garden is usually all planted. The hardest labor of the season is behind me. All that's left to do is tend to it with care and practice a little patience.
Those blooms are a reward. A sign of the fruits of my labor and a symbol of hope still to come.
This is what the Strawberry Moon represents to me, and what I offer to you now: an illuminated moment in the sky that promises more is on the way while appreciating what you already have in front of you. It's about dreams coming to fruition after a labor of love. It's a timestamp where peak late-spring growth meets the fiery threshold of summer, offering an abundance that is yours to claim.
Indigenous peoples have been making connections like these long before we settled here, naming the Moons based on nature’s cycles. June’s Full Moon was coined the Strawberry Moon by certain Native American tribes to mark the ripening of strawberries that were ready to be gathered. The Farmer’s Almanac notes, “As flowers bloom and early fruit ripens, June is a time of great abundance for many.” Without their wisdom of the land, we would not have these meaningful connections and I believe that is worth honoring here.
Full Moons don't require elaborate rituals. Even I’ll admit you don’t need a fancy ritual oil to feel aligned with them (although, tools are always fun and helpful). Full Moons simply ask for honest reflection. They hold space for both tough lessons and abundant opportunities. Two things can be true. Let the energy of this Moon wash over you like a wave of sweetness, longevity, and renewal. Let it remind you that even now, six months into the year, your blooming phase might just be beginning.
