Psyche [sy-kee]: the Greek Goddess of the soul who was born a human and later turned immortal. After betraying Eros (also known as Cupid, the Greek God of love and desire), she was forced to complete four nearly impossible trials set by Aphrodite. Empathetic to her plight, she was helped by creatures along the way and completed the seeming impossible tasks. Angered by Psyche's victory, Aphrodite tricked her, giving Psyche a box that was said to hold Persephone's beauty but was actually the essence of death. Eros found her dead on the hills of Mount Olympus, and brought her back to life as a Goddess making her the personification of the soul and officially married her.
The Greek word psyche means "soul" and is also used to describe butterflies, which are often used as a symbol of the soul's exit from the body. Psyche invites humans to be strong and secure, especially when others judge them. The Psyche necklace calls in the magic of the butterfly Goddess, bringing psychological growth, transformation, bravery, and a soul guided by love.
