Persephone Necklace

Sale price$ 45.00
Color:Gold

Inspired by the Goddess PersephoneThis two sided pendant captures the duality of a Goddess that is both dark and lovely. One side reflects her as the Goddess of Spring, adorned with narcissus flowers in her floral maiden form.  The other side portrays her guise as Queen of the Underworld, ruling over the dead in her iron crown. And dangling from it, the string of fate that came to be from a pomegranate seed.

The Persephone Necklace embodies the women who are half Goddess, half hell. The wearer of this necklace carries the spirit of Persephone – one who has faced darkness and emerged with unwavering strength. This necklace serves as a powerful reminder – the softest of souls often possess the most remarkable resilience.

The Story of Persephone

Persephone was admiring narcissus flowers in a field when the earth opened up revealing the dark realm of the Underworld. Hades, God of death, whisked her away, forever altering her destiny. Persephone's mother Demeter, Goddess of harvest and agriculture, fell into despair. In her grief she turned the land barren and the soil infertile, plunging the world into an unending winter.

During her time in the Underworld, Persephone was enticed to eat a seed from a pomegranate forever binding her to the Underworld. Once Demeter learned of this fate, she went to Zeus and threatened that if she wasn't reunited with her daughter, the fields would never be fertile again and the distinction between the Earth and the Underworld would soon dissolve leaving no mortals to worship them and offer tributes. A compromise was struck: Persephone would be allowed to return to her mother and spend two-thirds of the year on earth. But for the remaining third, she would return to Hades as Queen of the Underworld.

This eternal dance between realms defines Persephone. As she alternates her life between worlds, we witness the changing seasons. Her presence with Demeter brings forth spring and summer's bounty. When she descends into the Underworld, the world withers into fall and winter. Her story is a metaphor that applies to the potential transformation in us all.

The necklace where the lower chain connects to the pendent broke and I almost lost it! But I found it and bent the chain connection back together.

I don't normally wear gold but when I saw the gold Persephone necklace it instantly called out to me! It beautiful. I love the detail of pomegranate and the double sided pendent - representing each side of her nature.
